Can I seek compensation if I'm hurt at a gym?

When you go to the gym, you expect to get your workout in and go home. You certainly don't go with the expectation of being injured while you are there.

Sadly, gyms can sometimes be the site of accidents. These accidents can be very serious. If you are injured while you are working out, you might wonder if you can do anything to get back the money you have to spend on medical care or if you have any recourse for your missed wages. The answers to some common questions about this subject might surprise you.

Can I sue the gym?

The answer to this question might be hiding in plain sight. If you signed a contract with the gym, you might have signed a waiver of liability form. This form is meant to prevent you from being able to hold the gym liable in a lawsuit if you are injured at the gym. You should read the documents you signed carefully. If you have any question about how they might impact your case, you can always seek out the answer to that question.

What other recourse might I have?

If the issue was a defective piece of equipment, you might opt to seek compensation from the manufacturer of the equipment. You would have to prove that the defect caused the accident that caused your injury. This type of lawsuit would be a product liability claim instead of a premises liability claim.

Whether your accident was a slip-and-fall caused by an employee not cleaning up a spill or any other reason, you should learn about your options for seeking compensation so that you can try to get some financial relief.
