When it comes to analyzing car accidents in the state, Virginia authorities are sticklers for details. Each year, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) publishes a detailed report about traffic crashes in the state. While it would take far too much space to provide all of this information in a blog post, the sections below do offer some facts about Virginia traffic accidents occurring in 2015.

Accidents related to speeding in 2015

-- More than 320 people died in speed-related crashes. This represents an increase of more than 7.5 percent from 2014.

-- Over 14,000 people suffered injuries from speed-related truck and car accidents. This is an increase of more than 5 percent from 2014.

-- Over half of the at-fault drivers in speed-related crashes were men.

Accidents involving alcohol in 2015

-- The number of victims killed in drunk driving accidents actually decreased by 5.12 percent from 2014.

-- The number of injury victims in alcohol-involved accidents decreased by 1.72 percent from 2014.

-- 69.51 percent of the drunk driving convictions for 2015 were male drivers.

General accident facts for 2015

-- The number of traffic accidents increased by nearly 4.6 percent from 2014 and total 125,800 reported crashes.

-- A total of 65,029 people suffered car accident injuries, which is 2.60 percent more than occurred in 2014.

-- 753 people died in car accidents, which is a 7.57 percent increase from traffic deaths reported in 2014.

As revealed in the report, car accidents continue to be a widespread problem in the state. Victims of wrongful death and serious injury can turn to the law to acquire the compensation they need to recover after an accident.
